What do you make / sell?
I make and sell Your First Islamic Colouring Books,
How did you end up making /selling the things you make/sell i.e. what made you go into it?
Working in the education sector for nearly a decade, I have always had a desire to help children learn and bring out the best of each and every individual student or child. I have created resources and tried to make learning fun and engaging. I am also an aspiring artist. Combining both traits and my with my ambitious goals, I embarked on a new project, to deliver fundamental topics of Islam to kids of all backgrounds in a creative, fun, exciting and a unique way.
Kitab ul Talween is not just a resource aimed at Muslim children but aims to teach other people from different religions and backgrounds about Islam. The scarcities of colouring books on the topic of Islam in a simple and understandable form only encourage me to continue with my work.
How do you make it / where do you get the inspiration?
My work, first and foremost requires a lot of research and focus groups with students where I assess the students learning and I take feedback of my work. I started with an idea that hit me years ago. Recently and finally I made the time and thought about putting my plan in to action. I then just sat down and did it. The inspiration came to me from within, from working with children, and understanding that not every child is able to learn in the same manner. So I wanted to teach children through art and by being creative. I myself have a unique way of learning.
What do you like about the things you make / sell?
What’s really beautiful about my work is the message it delivers to the children, the topics I have covered and aim to cover in the future, but also because I produce all the material myself and I take pride in what I do. I enjoy drawing, and to be able to put my drawing skills for educational use is an absolute pleasure and motivation for me.
The other thing I like about my work is that I am trying to encourage children to explore their creativeness. Reflecting back on the difficulties I had growing up and challenges I faced exploring with colours because of my colour deficiency in my vision, I hope to encourage children and give them the confidence I lacked.
One of the hardest things I find even adults struggle with is perceptiveness. I love drawing things in perspective and I find it really easy now. This is mainly because whilst growing up I explored with perspectives and angles. I did that by looking at other drawings, the way objects appeared smaller and larger and grew in size depending on their distances. This helped me gain and understand how perspective worked. I include perceptiveness in all my colouring pages in the same way, so children can develop that for themselves.
What do you think of MyMuslimMall.com?
If I am looking for a product my first source is MyMuslimMall.com. My Muslim Mall is a brilliant concept because if you’re looking for Islamic products, it’s all here! One source is all that it needs and to have that at your fingertips, makes life so much easier and convenient. It definitely beats searching through endless search results on search engines. Just as importantly it helps small businesses grow. It’s where you will hear and learn about new products like the Your First Islamic Colouring Books which is unheard of in the vast open market.
It also strengthens communities and helps none Muslims to source for products. It really does benefit everyone from any background. The community need this. It needs to help and encourage each other to develop and further ourselves. Everyone should get behind this!
